Seth Godin

SETH GODIN

Business Week's "Ultimate Entrepreneur for the Information Age," Seth Godin is a best-selling author, entrepreneur and agent of change. Named one of the top 21 speakers for the 21st century by Successful Meetings magazine, Godin draws on his best-selling books and years of being a marketing pioneer to bring audiences of all kinds to their feet. It seems as though he has been on a path combining business and technology his entire life. He designed his first game for a mainframe computer while still in high school. While attending Tufts University, he co-founded one of the largest student-run businesses in the country. After receiving his MBA from Stanford University, Godin was named Brand Manager at Spinnaker Software where he managed 40 engineers and introduced more than 60 software and videotape products. In 1991 he created the trivia game GUTS, which became the most popular product in Prodigy's history. Godin founded the breakthrough Internet company Yoyodyne in 1995. Godin and his company were featured in The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Wired and Advertising Age. In 1998, Yoyodyne was sold to Yahoo!, with Godin taking over as Vice President of Direct Marketing for the Internet giant. Godin left Yahoo! in January 2000 to pursue his work as a change agent full time.

NICKI AUGUSTYN

Nicki Augustyn is the Director of Publications for the American College of Chest Physicians where she oversees the flagship journal, CHEST, and the College’s books, e-books, and apps for iPhone® and iPad®. She is also involved in the ongoing effort to launch and integrate several new technology platforms with the goal of delivering learning opportunities and current research to an expanding audience of physicians and health care professionals. Before joining the American College of Chest Physicians, she worked in journal publishing for the American Marketing Association and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Eric Pepper

Eric Pepper has been with SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, headquartered in Bellingham, Washington, since 1982 and Director of Publications since 1994. He oversees the editorial aspects of SPIE’s seven Journals, the SPIE Press books program, print and online magazines, and the SPIE Digital Library.

Rishi Desai

RISHI DESAI

Rishi Desai is a medical educator at the Khan Academy, a free online education platform and nonprofit organization. Desai is trained as a pediatric infectious disease physician and has worked at prestigious academic centers across the country, including hospitals affiliated with UCSF, Harvard University, Boston University, USC, and Stanford University. He also spent two years working at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as an Epidemic Intelligence Officer where he worked on disease outbreak investigations. Desai had an accelerated early education, completing high school and receiving his BS in Microbiology from UCLA by the age of 18. He has always had a love for learning and has taught students at every stage of his career. He has won numerous teaching awards for medical education, and his passion for teaching brought him to the Khan Academy. He is now the primary content creator for Khan Academy Medicine.

Forrest Swope

FORREST SWOPE

Forrest Swope is the SCM6 Platform Product Manager for Analytics & Reporting. He has 20+ years of experience in IT, software development, and business systems development in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors. His experience includes operational oversight of start-up companies in both retail and reverse logistics. Just prior to joining Silverchair, Swope led a multiyear project to build proprietary project management, resourcing, and financial analysis and reporting tools for the one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical contract research organizations. At Silverchair, Swope has helped shepherd the firm through initial certification for COUNTER compliance and is currently leading a team to enhance and expand semantic reporting and create a new, interactive analytics dashboard for publishers. Swope received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and has maintained a Project Management Professional certification since 2005. He has utilized and championed Agile development practices since 2008.

Thane Kerner

THANE KERNER

As co-founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Silverchair, Thane Kerner has since 1993 led the organization's strategic development of platforms and professional services that focus on the intersection of technology with health care knowledge. Medical informatics, the semantic web, clinical information processes, and web-based learning are the foundations for a broad variety of Silverchair-created health reference products delivered via networked digital media. Thane serves on the Executive Council of the Professional and Scholarly Publishers Division (PSP) of the Association of American Publishers; as Co-Chairman of the American Medical Publishers Committee; and on the National Library of Medicine's Publishers Advisory Panel. He is an advocate for issues of concern to the health information industry, and a frequent speaker and moderator at industry conferences including the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) Top Management Roundtable, the Council of Science Editors (CSE), the PSP Annual Conference, the AMPC Medical Informatics Seminar, and the AMPC-National Library of Medicine Biennial Symposium. Prior to establishing Silverchair, he was publisher of Experimental Hematology, the official journal of the International Society for Experimental Hematology. He holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
